VP/Director of Engineering/Project Manager
Managed large multi-discipline Engineering Division consisting of 150- 400 engineers, designers, drafters and contract staff in several offices. Responsible for competitive proposals including strategy, “top-down” and “bottoms-up” engineering and capital cost estimates, work plans, schedules, proposal preparation and presentations to clients. Responsible for several major clients.
Directed Engineering and Design efforts for a wide variety of new and upgraded facilities including:
Power Plants:
- Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Plants
- Simple Cycle Gas Turbine Plants
- Reciprocating Gas or Diesel Plants
- Renewable Power including Solar, Wind and Fuel Cell
- Coal Fired Power Plants
- Nuclear Power Plants
Energy Related Projects:
- Transportation including rail, bus depots, tunnels and airports
- Educational facilities including Universities and K-12
- Federal facilities for Department of Energy (DOE)
Process facilities:
- Chemical including monomers, polymers, plastics, and chlorine/caustic
- Pharmaceutical including bulk and dosage form
- Oil and gas including refinery upgrades
- Food and beverage including candy, sweeteners and tea
Major Achievements:
- Integrated Engineering departments after acquisition of Burns and Roe by POWER Engineers including resolving cultural and methodology differences.
- Implemented Integrated SmartPlant engineering software including 3D Design/Modelling to improve productivity and accuracy.
- Managed the update of Company Standards and Procedures as part of a quality improvement initiative to comply with both ISO 9001 and ASME NQA-1; Company received “N-stamp” as a result.
- Developed techniques for analyzing and documenting Hazardous Locations for power plants; currently used as the model for NFPA/OSHA compliance.
- Implemented Power Distribution Concept (PDC) for electrical supply equipment on gas turbine power plants, saving costs over “stick-built” design; PDCs are now the norm for the power plant industry.
Representative Projects:
Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems America-Energy and Environment Division
As Client Service Manager and Project Manager secured and executed environmental projects as well as coal power plant conversion projects.
GE Power and Water
As Client Service Manager and Project Manager assisted GE in developing Combined Cycle reference plant designs using latest GE state of the art “F” and “H” gas turbine technology.
Doosan Engineering and Services
Led the POWER (BR) team that established an alliance with Doosan including licensing technology for design of fossil power plants, that resulted in a $50MM increase in revenue for the Company.
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)
As part of the multi-company team for the Second Avenue Subway, provided conceptual design in the electrical, controls and HVAC areas. Work was performed at the Second Avenue design center in lower Manhattan.
U.S. Department of Energy
Engineering Director for Depleted Uranium Hexaflouride (DUF6) plants in Ohio and Kentucky to convert DUF6 waste products to stable and usable chemical products.
School Construction Authority of New York City (SCA)
Provided detailed engineering and inspection services for NYC school upgrades including:
- School boiler conversions from coal to natural gas
- Computer additions to classrooms (Smart Schools program)
